Mobile Phone themes creation

Themes are applications which are installed to change background picture on phone display, change graphic interface and other appearance from just buttons and icons up to battery and network indicators.

To create a theme you need a computer and specialized software. Most often such software is free and available at phone manufacturer website. Sometimes it requires a registration, but still is freeware.

To create a theme for any Sony Ericsson phone you will need a program called Theme Creator Pro 3G, version 3.1.260 or SE Themes Creator, version from 1.80 to 3.17. SE Themes Creator is very handy and simple. You only have to select your phone model, load your images and ringtones, choose desired colors for different interface elements and save the theme file.

To create a theme for Nokia phone you will need one of the following programs: Theme Studio 3.0 for S60, Carbide 3.1.1, Nokia Series 40 Theme Studio 1.2 or S40 Theme Studio 2.2. Theme Studio 3.0 for S60 is used to make themes for 2nd edition of Nokia phones based on S60 platform. These are Nokia 6600, 6630, 6680, 7610, 3230 and so on. With Carbide 3.1.1 you can create themes for 3rd edition of S60 phones (Nokia 3250, Nokia N-series, Nokia E-series and so on. Interface of these programs is rather complicated if compare it with SE theme editor and you probably should have some experience with graphics software to use it, but still anyone who has time and desire is able to cope with it.

Nokia Series 40 Theme Studio is used, as you can guess, to create themes for phones working on S40 platform. Version 1.2 makes themes for 2nd edition phones such as Nokia 2626, 6230i, etc, and version 2.2 works with themes for 3rd edition of S40 phones, such as Nokia 6300, 6125 and so on. Interface of these programs is much simpler than of those S60 related. You will only have to choose pictures of certain resolution, select desired colors and it’s finished.

At OnSmartPhone.com you can also download a lot of quality themes for Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola cell phones.

New Flip Walkman.

Now I can’t dispute the fact that Sony Ericsson make good phones, in particular the camera quality and music players are pretty darn good. But why oh why did they decide to make their latest flip phone look like it does? Flip mobile phones were once all the rage, however they seem to have taken a back seat to slide phones which have become more and more popular.

Now the particular mobile in question is the Sony Ericsson W980i, it is a black flip walkman phone. It has good features with a 3.2 megapixel camera, 8GB internal memory (although this is it – it has no memory card slot for expansion), it is 3.5G HSDPA meaning your web browsing and downloading will be very quick, and of course it has the obvious Walkman player and FM radio.

The walkman player can be used well even when the flip is shut as there are external controls to play, pause and skip tracks on the front flip – as well as a display to show your current songs and messages about incoming calls and text messages. The Sony Ericsson W980i also has shake control to skip tracks with the mere shake of the phone, just like the W910 does.

It also has an FM transmitter like the recently announced Nokia N78 which means you can transmit the music on your phone to your car stereo or radio without the need for wires, just like the iTrip does for iPods.

While all that makes it seem like a great choice it is an acquired taste – it has a rather strange retro look to it, and without seeing it hands on it is difficult to tell if that is going to work and make it look quirky and attractive or if it is just going to look odd!

The Sony Ericsson W980i is due for release in late summer 2008, so watch out for it and make up your own mind on the unusual styling.

Smartphones for Smart business people!

Toshiba are usually associated with home entertainment systems and computers, but unbeknown to many people is that they also produce mobile phones.

The Toshiba Protégé G910 and G920 which are due to be released in quarter one this year, are folding Windows media 6 smartphones boasting touchscreen’s and full QWERTY keyboards. It measures 117 x 64 x 20mm and weighs in at 183 grams which makes it around the same size as the Nokia E90 (which measures 132 x 57 x 20mm).

The smart phone looks like a laptop when it is opened to reveal its 3”, 800 x 480 pixel touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard. The touchscreen is one of the highest resolution screens on the market, with other devices only managing 320 x 240 pixels with only a few phones managing 640 x 480 pixels.

Both handsets come with built in GPS, with the G920 equip with A-GPS compared to the G910’s standard GPS, and both come with Qualcomm’s gpsOneXTRA Assistance technology. Toshiba have stated that there will be a built in Sat Nav system, but you can add your own favourite Sat Nav package if you wanted too.

As already mention the G910 and G920 are Windows Media 6 smartphones and therefore come with pocket versions of office, internet explorer, and windows media player, accompanied by the Opera web browser. And don’t worry as security isn’t a problem, as both devices have a built in fingerprint reader!

Other features include Bluetooth 2.0, USB connector, microSD card slot (expandable up to 2GB), WiFi, EDGE, HSDPA, 2 mega pixel camera with auto focus, and a secondary camera for video calling. It has up to five hours of talk time and nineteen days of standby time.

Finally we come to the G910 and G920’s looks. The exterior of the phone is very minimal featuring a small display screen and three control buttons. The fascia has a partial leather effect covering, which certainly gives these devices a stylish feel capable of wooing your business colleagues!

Toshiba hope to have both handsets released during quarter one of this year.

The Aussie Top Ten Ringtones

Australia just like any other place in the world has succumbed no differently to the temptation of mobile phone ring tones. It has been reported that a very high number of teenagers are getting hooked on to mobile phones and in turn mobile phone content usage. As per reports, mobile phone ring tones enjoy a mass popularity with this young group because of their strong desire to express themselves through their appearances, and behaviour. There is a constant need to express their attitude and make a statement about their social, cultural, sexual, and political preferences. An undercurrent hidden need that runs through this entire group is to carve out a distinct personality for themselves. And always be ahead in the race for popularity and high on the cool quotient.

Marketers, as born keen opportunists, have jumped the bandwagon in communicating aggressively with this group and in ways that are more than merely successful in simply enticing them. They have made them brand loyal towards their products and services that are easily available over the internet. Several websites offering mobile phone ring tone downloads are continuously upgrading their list of latest offerings, and in their attempt to hype the mania even further, they have dedicated resources for scouring and listing the ‘Top 10 ring tones for the Week’ and so on and so forth; just to ensure that there is regular loyal traffic on their web page. However, due to the lack of a universal body governing the ring tone industry and non – availability of measuring tools to rate the popularity of ring tones on a global basis, it is difficult even for experts to make an all encompassing comprehensive list of ‘Top 10’ mobile phone ring tones for any region.

According to recent reports having come in this new year, Australia’s current hot favourites would include these for sure, apart from anything else that may have become a trend as well.

The absolutely adorable and true to its name, Snuggle Song by Cutie, is on the top of many lists and going by its popularity it’s a hot favourite video tone as well.

Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Love is another popular ring tone and video tone.

It was probably only natural for artist Timbaland’s Apologize featuring OneRepublic, to make its presence felt on the charts across websites. A definite hit with those that enjoy rap.

It’s definitely good to see Britney in the news for all the right reasons. And after all doesn’t an artiste always want his or her work to speak for itself. Spears’ Piece of Me has definitely been successful in grabbing a piece off the chartbusters pie.

Grammy award winner, Santana’s another composition, Into the Night, featuring Chad Kroeger, is doing well for itself on the lists too.

Alicia Keys croons No One, yet gets everyone to listen to her and want a ring tone of her composition.

Chris Brown featuring T- pain’s Kiss Kiss has kissed its competitors goodbye and made its way to the top of the lists.

Crank That by Soulja Boy Tell Em has gone down very well with the hip – hop and rock fans.

And this one may sound strange only if you don’t know what a wild life loving country Australia is. Ring tones of wild animals, pets, birds, and the famous Croc SNAP, have always had their ardent fan following.

Nickelback’s hitting it hard with Rockstar being downloaded as a monotone, polyphonic ring tone, and a real tone.
